About the film:
This short film documents the solo exhibition Philippe Vandenberg: Molenbeek. The exhibition was held in 2020-2021 in BOZAR, Brussels. Background is provided by artist Pélagie Gbaguidi, who elaborates on the affinities between her work and that of Vandenberg. The exhibition focused on the years that Philippe Vandenberg spent in Molenbeek. The neighbourhood inspired him to create a satirical world in which he consistently exposed the recurring structures of oppression, fundamentalism and groupthink. On view were observations on paper constituting a burlesque Molenbeek: an imaginary site where personal and collective traumas are humorously and ironically interwoven with urban problems and global conflicts.
