Philippe Vandenberg: Kamikaze (Hamburger Kunsthalle, 2018)

This film documents the solo exhibition Philippe Vandenberg: Kamikaze. The exhibition was held in 2018-2019 in the Hamburger Kunsthalle, Hamburg, and in 2019 in Kunsthaus Centre d’art Pasquart, Biel-Bienne. Background is provided by curator Brigitte Kölle. Kamikaze describes Phillippe Vandenberg’s drastic working methods and results, a basic precept of which is that creativity is only possible through the deliberate destruction of what has gone before. On view was a highly diverse and multifaceted body of paintings and works on paper attesting to this principle spanning the years 1995-2009.
