This online essay was created on the occasion of the solo exhibition Philippe Vandenberg: Molenbeek. The exhibition was held in 2020-2021 in BOZAR, Brussels. The online essay includes documentation on the Philippe Vandenberg’s Molenbeek years, next to a selection of his observations on paper spanning the years 2006 2009 that constitute a Burlesque Molenbeek: an imaginary site where personal and collective traumas are humorously and ironically interwoven with urban problems and global conflicts.
